Richmond Marathon: The Results Are In…

Unofficial finish time – 2:51:27

Not quite a PR, but I’m happy. I was on track for a sub-2:51:00 until about mile 20, but then it got tough. The strong headwind didn’t help, but fighting slight fatigue in my legs was also a factor.

Not one runner passed me after about mile 7 and I must have picked off at least 20 in the second half of the race.

More to follow later, but for now it’s time for a long soak in the bath….

Thanks everyone for your support – really appreciate it!

Congrats on a great race!! I know you didn’t get that sub 2:50, but I have a feeling that the Running Gods wanted to postpone the INEVITABLE for at least one more race.

Can’t wait to read your race report… in the meantime drink a couple cold ones as you definitely deserve them.

  2. Cheers for the comments. I was right on pace at the half, a little fast at 20, and then it got tough – headwind and fatigue were the main factors.

I must say I’m happy with the number of runners I passed from mile 7 onwards, and you’re right Bill, there will definitely be another one!

Cold ones will be consumed after a well deserved nap.

    Thanks for checking in….

  3. Hey Steve,
Great run! I’m sorry that you didn’t run the sub 2:50 but you were so close! My wife was with Coach Bernard, and said that she saw you at the finish… We have a welsh terrier, and I thought you’d get a kick out of that. I’m sorry I missed you. After mile 20 it definitely got hot and windy. Congratulations on an awesome marathon!

  4. Hey Billy,

Great dog! My wife had already spotted him/her and then we saw Coach Bernard waiting with your wife and the dog. What’s his/her name?

Congrats on your 3:04:59 – it did get tough after mile 20 didn’t it? That headwind was a huge drain on my energy reserves..

Coach Bernard mentioned “Billy” when we were talking to him; now I know he was talking about! Small world eh?

Enjoy the recovery and congrats once again!

  5. Thanks Charlie! I’m happy. Actually, the more I look at the results the happier I get.

Looks to me like there are a bunch of finisher’s times missing though – no-one between 2:28 and 2:42 sounds a bit fishy. We’ll see later I guess.

Ally and I were talking about your excellent race last year and wondered how your recovery is going? I hope you’re still making progress and able to exercise regularly.

    Appreciate the comment,

  6. Hey Steve,

Definitely a small world, to make it smaller, I saw that guy that won the Suffolk 5k last spring around mile 7.

The dog’s name is Jefferson (Lauren and I met at UVa) and he loves going to races. He’s worn out now from a very exciting day.

The run was a pr, so I’m excited, but looking forward to no long runs for a while. Enjoy the recovery as well, and hope to see you around!

  7. Great race Steve. You did awesome. It was a tough race with the wind and heat. I think Shamrock is calling for the PR. Great local race with local friends/fans. I’ll be there cheering for you and Walt. Ice those legs have a couple of cold ones. You deserve it. See you soon.

  9. Hi Steve,

    Wow, what a finish! Congrats!

“Not one runner passed me after about mile 7 and I must have picked off at least 20 in the second half of the race.” –> That part alone is impressive!

So I guess the next obvious step is to go for turning your old PR into a pile of rubble at the Shamrock, eh? 😎

Well, enjoy savoring your most recent success!

    Cheers,
    -C
