Army/Navy 10k

As predicted in last week’s post, I was able to shave off about 45 seconds from my Turkey Trot 10k on Thanksgiving Day. The weather was good (high 40’s) and the wind not too strong, which for Fort Story Army Base is quite unusual!

Today I tried something different with my Garmin Forerunner 305. Instead of the autolap feature, I decided to take a manual split at each mile mark. Here’s what I got:

Mile 1: 6:04 – 1.01 miles
Mile 2: 5:53 – 0.98 miles
Mile 3: 6:06 – 1.04 miles
Mile 4: 6:05 – 1.01 miles
Mile 5: 6:02 – 0.99 miles
Mile 6: 6:13 – 1.03 miles

Fort StoryAs you can see, the mile markers weren’t terribly accurate, but at least my pace didn’t fade too much. I felt surprisingly strong throughout the race and was able to pick off several runners one by one to finish 6th overall and 1st in the 40-49 age group.

Not sure how much running I’ll be able to fit in over the next week or so. I’m about to embark on a bathroom remodeling project and spare time is going to be at a minimum I think. We’ll see. Whatever happens with the bathroom, I know this was my last race of 2007 so it was nice to finish on quite a positive note….
