Sunday Morning 8 Miler

After yesterday’s combined 21.6 miles (30k race and 3 mile warm up), my legs felt surprisingly good when I finally got out of bed this morning. My stomach on the other hand was a different story. I was almost sick when I woke at 5:30am, but managed to sleep for a few more hours by which time the nauseous feeling had passed.

My plan was to run 8 miles today, to take my weekly total to 52 and therefore record a slight increase over the previous week. So far this year I’ve run 35.6, 38.1, 38.8, 42.1, 42.4, 51.8 and it would be nice to keep the streak going.

As an added bonus, I had my daughter’s company throughout the 8 miles which helped take my mind off the sluggish feeling in my legs. She rode my mountain bike as I plodded along at 8 minute mile pace, which for some reason actually felt more like 7 minute mile pace. Maybe I was just jaded from yesterday’s efforts?

The run was quite uneventful as a training run, but it was nice to spend time with my daughter and use the hour chatting about all kinds of stuff – much better than a solitary run on the trail as is the norm for a typical Sunday morning.

So, mission(s) accomplished – 8 mile run in the bag, 52.2 miles recorded for the week, sickly stomach feeling dispensed with and quality time spent with daughter home from college for the weekend. Good times….
