McMillan Custom Marathon Plan: Week 9 Day 6

Week 9, Day 6
Phase: Marathon
Workout: 30 minute Easy Run
Purpose: Build Endurance
Feeling good despite the crazy high humidity! If conditions are the same tomorrow a lot of people will suffer. Luckily I’ve been training in the worst of the heat and humidity throughout the summer, so I feel like my body is quite used to it. Will still be a challenge though as I push my body to its limits.

So, back to the run – just an easy 30 minutes (4 miles) with 7 striders thrown in for good measure just to remind my legs they’ll have some work to do tomorrow. Unusually for me, I wore my iPod today; it actually made a pleasant change to have some tunes to run along too. I love The Hives’ Black and White Album at the moment and there are several songs that really get me pumped up. Think I’ll charge up the pod and take it with me to start area tomorrow morning….

I’ve laid out my race gear for the race – Running Etc. singlet, Brooks shorts, Balega socks and Brooks ST3 Racers. Hopefully I won’t end up with feet like Brain Sell after his Olympic marathon.

Still undecided on a goal, but here’s an idea of my previous Rock ‘n’ Roll times:

2001	1:25:49	10840 Finishers	115th male	138th overall	21st age group
2003	1:26:47	12097 Finishers	97th male	115th overall	13th age group
2004	1:25:08	11912 Finishers	59th male	76th overall	8th age group
2005	1:26:26	15507 Finishers	157th male	190th overall	18th age group
2006	1:21:26	16141 Finishers	65th male	80th overall	6th age group
2007	1:22:35	17025 Finishers	91st male	107th overall	7th age group

My lifetime best for the half marathon distance is 1:19:45 and to be honest I think that’s safe until the cooler weather kicks in. If I can get close to my best Rock ‘n’ Roll (1:21:26), I’d be exceptionally happy. We’ll see in about 18 hours time I guess…..

Finally, I’d like to dedicate my 2008 Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon to good friend and fellow blogger Charlie (pictured left) who unbelievably broke his leg at the ASYMCA Mud Run earlier this month.

Charlie, the race won’t be the same without you and I’ll definitely miss seeing you at the start line, out on the course and at the finish area. I hope you’re doing ok and wish you a speedy recovery!

Check out Charlie’s Running Nowhere Fast blog and I’m sure he’d appreciate a comment if you can spare a minute or two.

Oh yeah, if you’re running Rock ‘n’ Roll tomorrow and see an Elvis lookalike – he’s the guy on the right in the above picture; local running Chad Simpson.

PS If anyone’s following me on Twitter, I’ll try to send a quick update after the race….
