McMillan Custom Marathon Plan: Week 13 Day 7 – Four Minutes In 90 Minutes

Week 13, Day 7
Phase: Marathon
Workout: Long, Steady Run: 90 minutes
Purpose: Build Endurance and leg resistance to fatigue
Left it a little late in the day for my Sunday run, and ended up running on the treadmill (again). I’m not a huge fan of long runs on the ‘mill; anything more than an hour is usually too much to handle. Today, however, I decided to watch the classic Four Minutes movie to help pass the time. Four Minutes is the true inspirational story of amateur runner, Roger Bannister, and his record-breaking feat of running the first sub-four-minute mile in 1954; thoroughly enjoyable, inspirational and a perfect length for my 90 minute run.

Logging just under 50 miles, this past week has served as a nice recovery period for me. I feel fresh and look forward to step it up over the remaining seven weeks of the McMillan Custom Marathon Plan. Also for the first time in several months, I don’t have any shin pain after a Sunday long run. Thanks Coach McMillan for the 90 minute run today!

  1. Sounds like an interesting movie. I recently read the book “The Perfect Mile” detailing the efforts of Wes Santee, John Landy and Roger Bannister to be the first to break the 4 minute mile barrier. Very well written and an engrossing read.

  2. Mark: yeah, that’s a great book – one of my favorites. I’d read mixed reviews about the movie, but I enjoyed it. Helped pass the time on the “dreadmill” anyway…

Eric: well worth a Netflix. Enjoy..
