Cayman Marathon Countdown – Day 5

Bit of a good news/bad news kind of run today.

Good news – at around 8:00/mile pace, my 5 mile MAF run was significantly faster than last Friday’s baseline MAF test. Amazing how fast the body adapts to different conditions.

Bad news – despite resting yesterday, the upper thigh feels no better and with just 5 days to go until race day, the pain/discomfort is a bit concerning to say the least. Hopefully more rest and ice will be beneficial.

In other news, at least I’ve got my race Day fuel sorted – 2 stick packs of Tailwind Nutrition which I’ll mix with a small amount of water and carry in 2 small, plastic flasks in my shorts pockets. Naturally, I’ll supplement the Tailwind with plenty of water from the well stocked water stops. 400 calories should be plenty of fuel for a marathon distance event, and as Tailwind contains sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, I won’t need to carry additional electrolyte capsules either.

Ah well, time for some ice on the thigh, then a bit more beach time and relaxation.
