Caught the last of the late afternoon sun as I went out for a brisk four mile run. With Saturday’s 30k just around the corner, I didn’t want to run too far, but I did want to speed things up a little and start working on some tempo running.
The temperature was only 42°F but with the lack of wind, felt very pleasant indeed. My first mile was a nice crisp 7:15 and I was able to focus on my form before picking up the pace in the second mile. Mile two was a sub-7 minute effort (6:50) and before I knew it I was turning around and heading back to the house. I like these quick four milers!
Mile three was more taxing (my legs still felt good, but my breathing was becoming labored), but I’d managed to get quicker and ran a 6:24. Mile 4 was much tougher and with a busy road to cross I always seem to lose momentum and have to pick it up again at the finish. Tonight I was able to cross with no problems and maintain my speed for a final mile in 6:18.
So, good workout, nice lung buster and stride builder. Average pace was 6:41 per mile which could be what I end up running at Saturday’s 30k with any luck. We’ll see..
By the way, no heart rate monitor data tonight. I’m having problems with my Garmin 305 heart rate strap again. Looks like a project for the weekend.
