Another Mid Length Run: One Week Away From The Shamrock Marathon

What a difference 24 hours make! I ran yesterday morning in balmy conditions – upper 60°s and slightly humid. Today was just 33°F (“feels like 22°” according to weather.com) with a 18mph WNW wind and quite a shock to the system.

I ended up running almost 12 miles and thankfully had the company of my daughter, who rode her bike alongside me and helped pass the time by chatting about all kinds of stuff ranging from her current foot injury to college life to her part-time job at local running store Running Etc.

The 5.5 miles out were quite comfortable, running towards the rising sun with a healthy tailwind pushing us along. Once we turned around to head home however, the icy wind hit us and it was a struggle to maintain any kind of good form. Most of the miles were around 7:30 pace and all in all it was a positive run with no hint of shin pain as I experienced in yesterday’s attempted Yasso 800s.

The 11.84 miles took my total for the week to 55.5 miles – a tiny one mile increase on last week and the 10th successive weekly increase. Somehow I can’t see that trend continuing as I really need to taper slightly for next week’s marathon.

Weekly totals:
3/3/2008 – 3/9/2008: 55.5 Mi
2/25/2008 — 3/2/2008: 54.5 Mi
2/18/2008 — 2/24/2008: 54.0 Mi
2/11/2008 — 2/17/2008: 52.2 Mi
2/4/2008 — 2/10/2008: 51.8 Mi
1/28/2008 — 2/3/2008: 42.4 Mi
1/21/2008 — 1/27/2008: 42.1 Mi
1/14/2008 — 1/20/2008: 38.8 Mi
1/7/2008 — 1/13/2008: 38.1 Mi
12/31/2007 — 1/6/2008: 35.6 Mi

  1. Great job on another great week Steve!

Wait! Aren’t you suppose to be tapering?

At least you didn’t run any races!

Have a great week and see you out there!

  2. I feel like I’m tapering – no races, no long run. Just looking forward to race day now….

I wonder what the weather will be like? Judging by the past 3 or 4 days, anything could happen.
