Hi there, I found your blog from googling "mcmillan heart rate". I'm currently using a mcmillan custom training plan in prep for the Phoenix Rock n Roll marathon in January.

I enjoyed reading your race report.. it's crazy how you can feel so great and the have the wheels fall off. But it's great to see your attitude - missing a PR by less than 30 seconds when you did have to overcome an unusually warm day is darned impressive!

Steve

Great race and report. I can't help but compare my experience at the Air Force to what happened to you. I know that I bonked about 50x worse, but I do know that feeling where the legs just won't go the way they are supposed to.

Still... great race and we should all be so fortunate as to run 2:51 under those conditions. Quite a fair amount of talent and a solid work ethic make you such a truly exceptional runner.

Enjoy your recovery.

I love reading race reports. This is cool. Also like to hear about other people use of Hammer Nutrition products.

One of these days, I will say I ran a 345 and be happy with that.

I'm hoping to run a 3:30 marathon in Dallas next month, so its kind of neat to see the race report of a sub-3hr marathoner. Great race, great race report, and thanks for the inspiration.

Great race and great race report Steve. You executed such a perfect plan, holding back and feeling good for so much of the race. But conditions did get the best of you for what could have been an even better day. How can you remember all those mile by mile details like that? After a certain point my brain is mush and it's hard for me to even figure what mile I'm at! Nice job!

Steve ran one heck of a race considering the conditions. It was warm 70+ degrees for most of the race, the humidity was over 80% at the start of the race, and there was sustained winds of 15 MPH and gusts of up to 35 MPH.

The average finishing time for the top 100 was 7 minutes slower than 2007 and for the top 1000 was over 27 minutes slower.

Congratulations Steve
