MISSION (Skincare) Accomplished

Well, after several years of searching for the perfect sunscreen, I’m pleased to announce I’ve found it! After just over a week of testing several products in the range of MISSION Skincare products, I have to say they do exactly what their web site claims.

This weekend has seen the hottest and sunniest weather of the year so far, but the sunscreen has worked tremendously. My favorite product to date is the Ultra Sweatproof SPF30+ Sunscreen; it applies easily, is non-greasy and ultra-dry. Best of all, out on the run, it stays where it needs to stay and doesn’t sting the eyes.

The lotion is great when you’re not in a rush and can apply about 15-20 minutes before you head out, but there’s also a quick-drying spray for those times you’re in a hurry.

I’m also loving the lip protector which prevents cracked, dehydrated lips; always a problem in the summer months on the east coast.

Just to be clear, this isn’t one of those sponsored blog posts; I am genuinely using the products on a regular basis and won’t be switching back to one of the more generic brands. If truth be told, I used one of these brands on Sunday afternoon when I was out cutting the grass. I figured I didn’t want to waste the “good stuff” on grass cutting chores, but within minutes the so-called waterproof/sweatproof sunscreen was pouring down my face and stinging my eyes. Not a pleasant experience and just one of the reasons from now on I’ll just be using MISSION Skincare products.

If MISSION Skincare is good enough for Charlie Engle – Charlie and his team became the first people to run across the entire Sahara Desert in 2007 – it’s definitely good enough for me!

  1. Chuck’s on my short list of guys I want to race against and then buy a beer.

I’ll have to pick some of this stuff up for my wife. I do okay with the 50 SPF stuff I use right now; my skin absorbs sunscreen like it’s going out of style which doesn’t leave a lot to run out into my eyes. That, and I always wear a hat when I’m running the past few years to avoid as much sun exposure as I can.

  2. Hey Blaine

Recently watched Running The Sahara – great film and a great set of guys. What an achievement, eh?

The MISSION products are great, but as with most sunscreens, one of the tricks is to apply the stuff early enough so that it can be absorbed. I’ve been guilty in the past of slapping it on and heading out the door – a definite recipe for disaster.

Good luck this weekend! Another course record in the nag you think?

  3. Well, I should be able to break the course record without much trouble given my training and the fact that they took out some of the hills.

Whether I’m the first one to do so or not we’ll have to wait and see. I’ll be very surprised if nobody runs faster than I did last year; I know of at least one person that will definitely be there that can run faster and one person that might be there. The only thing that could prevent it is we have a weekend like last weekend and the mercury rises too high.

(Although I suppose you can’t break a course record if they don’t run the same course, right?)
