Building The Base: Another Hour Of Running

Decided on a steady hour of running tonight to continue the base building phase of my current training program. Despite temperatures in the mid 30’s and a strong NW wind, I chose to run outside instead of the “easier” treadmill option. With two layers on top, hat, gloves and shorts (yes, still not cold enough for running pants), I ventured outside and spent the first two miles battling the cold, brisk wind.

I was determined to keep an even pace tonight and after a couple of 8 minute miles, settled into a comfortable 7:30/minute groove. As I’m not following a specific training plan at the moment, I had no set mileage in mind, so just kept at it, enjoying the run and eventually decided to cap the workout at about 8 miles.

My average pace was 7:43 per mile, not the quickest I’ve ever run, but a solid 8 more base miles in the bank.
