10 Mile Post Marathon Training Run

Decided to run about 10 miles this morning to test my legs after last week’s marathon. I haven’t been totally lazy all week – I ran on Wednesday and have kept fairly active on the other days.

I started the run with a sub 8:00 minute mile and was surprised at how easy it felt. The weather was crisp (about 50°F I think), sunny and calm – a perfect running morning! The other pleasant change was my wife accompanying me on her mountain bike.

I planned to go easy for a few miles, see how my legs felt, maybe pick up the pace in the middle miles and then ease off for the last couple of miles.

Each of the next 5 miles were all around 7:00 minute/mile pace – 6:58, 6:50, 6:54, 6:52 and 7:02 (quick water stop!) I was surprised how good my legs felt to be honest – no real aches or pains.

I tried to pick up the pace and recorded 3 miles at 6:39, 6:42 and 6:28. I’ll have to be honest and say the miles felt faster than the stopwatch displayed, but overall I’m happy with the performance.

I backed off for the last mile (7:13) and jogged back to the car to finish off the run. All in all an encouraging workout just 7 days after the Marine Corps Marathon.
