Friday Four Miler

With a 5k race to run tomorrow evening I should have just got through an easy four miles today, but typical of me I ran too hard and ended up chasing the clock to bring my average speed down to 7 minute miles. I don’t really know why I can’t run easy on my easy days. Maybe I shouldn’t wear a watch/Garmin? As soon as I see the first mile split, something makes me run a little quicker, and before I know it I’m chasing an average pace or trying to run a faster mile or something else.

With splits of 7:31 7:08 6:38 and 6:44, I did indeed average 7 minute miles, but I had to try hard in the last quarter mile to meet the target. I guess it could be worse, but I always end up feeling tired and sore and regretting the extra effort put forth.

I followed up tonight’s run with 4 miles on my beach cruiser. It’s been a while since its last outing but I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed the lazy ride around the neighborhood. Maybe next time I’ll ride it to the Oceanfront and make the most of the cruising capabilities!

On a side note my weekly mileage nudged over 30 miles today, so I’m heading in the right direction and getting some good miles in again. It’s nice to still have a couple of days to add into the mix too.

Hope everyone had a great training week and good luck with whatever you’re planning for the weekend….
