Hundred Push Ups Week 5 Day 1 (Repeat)

I’m sufficiently rested after my 40 minute run this morning to tackle the Hundred Push Ups repeat of Week 5 Day 1. Here goes:

Required: 40, 32, 30, 25, at least 40

Took my time on the first 40 and managed them with no problems. The 32 and the 30 were fine too – nice, deliberate push ups, eyes closed, counting them down in my mind. By the mid point of the 25 I was starting to get shaky, but held firm and finished them off.

Decided on a change of tactics for the final 40; I moved to a different room with a hard floor which made enough of a difference for me to be able to get through the final 40. Not sure why the hard floor felt “easier” but I think I’ll use this room from now on. Maybe doing push ups on a carpet is a waste of energy and not very efficient? Not sure…all I know is I couldn’t have done one more push up if I wanted to; my arms were totally done.

Actual : 40, 32, 30, 25, 40 [total 167]

So, Week 5 Day 1 is finally behind me and now I can move on full of confidence to Day 2 and 3 of the fifth week! Getting closer to the magic hundred….

Before I close this update, I’d just like to mention a brand new club that fellow blogger Corey Irwin has started over at her great See Corey Run blog. Corey is encouraging as many ladies as possible to join her unique “Hundred Pushup Queens” club and is keen to “see this group grow to be a hundred strong!

So, if you’re female and you’re doing the Hundred Push Ups program, make sure you head on over to Corey’s blog to sign up and join the Hundred Pushup Queens club.

  1. My arms are quivering simply READING the number of pushups you just did. 😉

Sounds like the pushup intervals are getting a lot easier for you. Good job on toughing out the last two sets! That’s some stellar effort!

Interesting observation on the hard wood floor vs. carpet tactics. Hmmm, I’m going to have to try a harder floor surface too & then we can compare notes.

So other than sore, how do you feel about being only two days away from the magic hundred?!

Who-hoooo — You’re almost there! This is exciting stuff! You can do it!

  2. That’s something I’ve found to be true as well.

If I’m doing my pushups at home I’ll do the first lot on the carpet and then go and do the max set on a harder surface.

I don’t know if it’s psychological but it seems to help!

  3. Corey: I wouldn’t say “easier”; I think it’s just a natural progression over the course of several weeks with each workout pushing me just a little bit further.
I wish there were just two days left, but I have the small matter of Week 6 to do too!

Andrew: I guess I’m not wasting precious energy in the springiness of a carpet. The harder floor hurts my wrists a little, but it certainly helps me perform a few extra reps…

    Thanks for the comments!

  4. I just ran into week 5 day 1 and I feel like I’ve been mauled. I even went down to middle column since I realized the hardest one would be impossible, and still I only got to 18 in the last set (at least 35). I did 60 in my max test this weekend.

Whoever wrote this schedule must have forgotten the real week 5 schedule and this is actually week 6!
