Good News: I’m A 2008 Tenacious Award Winner!

Received word earlier today that I’m a 2008 Tenacious Award Winner. What’s one of those you may ask, and quite rightly so. Well, Brett Stewart (aka @TRIPHX on Twitter) came up with the cool idea of the “Tenacious Awards” which are Brett’s way

of saying thanks to all of those who probably don’t know how much they have motivated me over the last year.

What a nice gesture and here’s the details of my award:

Personal Best Award: Steve Speirs (twitter @britishbulldog). Steve is a spark plug, and a master motivator. His self-help fitness sites (hundredpushups.com and twohundredsitups.com) are brilliant, and he is constantly pushing himself to surpass his goals. With PR’s in marathon distance all the way down to 5k’s, Steve sets the bar for athletes who motivate by teaching AND doing.

Richmond Marathon Award Arrives In The Mail

Just over five weeks have passed since my third marathon of 2008, the Richmond Marathon, so it was great to receive a small package in the mail containing a special award – a very nice plaque confirming by place as 1st Masters Runner in the 2008 Richmond Marathon. Despite tough race-day conditions I fared pretty well and the award will serve to remind me of a very satisfying day.

Actually, the last five weeks have been equally satisfying to me. First off, there was a 35:56 PR (personal record) performance at the Turkey Trot 10k on Thanksgiving Day – my first time under the 36 minute barrier. Next up was another solid 10k – this time a 36:19 at the annual Army/Navy 10k held on Fort Story Army Base. To cap off a great post-marathon month and a very enjoyable and successful year, I blasted away my previous 5k lifetime best with a surprising 17:09 finish at the Santa Claus Shuffle 5k.

Training is going well and I’m really excited about racing in 2009. It also dawned on me this morning that I’m exceptionally fortunate to have such a supportive family and group of friends; not just friends in the real world, but also in various online communities too. Not that I take this for granted, but there are so many great people around and I wouldn’t be who I am today without their support.

I’m also really lucky I can make and afford healthy food choices, have enough exercise apparel and equipment to satisfy my “fit and healthy” craving and have access to all the training tools, technology and gadgets a man could possibly ever need. All I’m left to do is get out and log the miles……

2008 Shamrock Marathon Award

Received an email yesterday from “The Shamrock Staff” letting me know my Shamrock Marathon award is ready for collection from Final Kick Sports in Virginia Beach, VA.

Congratulations! You are an age group award winner from the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon, Half Marathon, or 8K. Please stop by Final Kick Sports between 10:00am -6:00pm starting Saturday March 29th – Saturday April 5th to pick up your award. If you have any questions, please contact the Shamrock office at (757) 412-1056.

I’ll probably collect it later today and maybe post a photo if it’s worth showing off. It also gives me a chance to try out this WordPress Map Plugin I found yesterday.

If you’re an award winner from out of town and unable to collect from Final Kick Sports, I’d suggest contacting the Shamrock office at (757) 412-1056. Last year they were able to mail out awards and I’m sure they’ll do the same this year if necessary.
